I know it sounds impossible, but did you know that you can go through winter – as well as summer- with fresh and glowing skin? Your face doesn’t have to look dull and pasty because of the dry and crackly winter months.
Staying in Africa this month, we move to the north, and to a cuisine that has become a firm favourite around the globe for its use of aromatic spices and, especially, the combination of dried and preserved fruits with savoury dishes.
At the beginning of May we ran a Facebook post about curb appeal. Over the past two months or so we’ve had some interesting feedback on it, so we decided to write this piece to expand a little more on the subject and bring it to our Beloved readers in a more forgiving and peaceful format.
Damhuis is a Melkbosstrand institution. In operation under the current owners since 2009, it boasts what must be some of the best food in Western Cape and at very unfancy prices. The ambiance is olde world charm, wooden roof beams, warm lighting and the fireplace, of course. The menu is spectacular. Although famous for fish and seafood, chef Stéfan Meintjie is clearly no slouch when it comes to meat. And on this cold, cold day, most of our party opted for meat.
Many women tend to let go of their health and wellness goals during winter, leading to weight gain and sluggishness. However, this mindset can hinder your long-term health and ultimately affect your ability to achieve your summer goals.
In all the months we have been writing the food section for the magazine, we have not covered any recipes from our own continent.
