Ask and you shall received | Thandy Mkhambi

“Ask and you shall receive”

February is my birthday month and I get so excited about everything!! Literally everything! The only thing that gives me the heebie-jeebies is the big question “What would you like for your birthday?” After a little introspection, I realise that  the reason for my discomfort is that I have a hard time because I am scared of hoping and then being disappointed. I am sure I am not alone in this dilemma and the Lord also knows this hence He put it in the Bible for us. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and you will receive what you ask for. For everyone who asks, receives.”

Why is asking so difficult? It is because asking requires faith, hope and vulnerability. A significant number of the healing miracles documented in the New Testament that Jesus performed start with someone asking Him for healing for themselves or asking for healing on behalf of others (Mark 1:40-42; Matt. 8:5-13; Luke 4:17-24). Can you imagine travelling for days to go and ASK Jesus to heal you or your loved one and not having the guarantee that you will even see Him, let alone have Him grant your request? That must have taken a supernatural amount of faith!

You and I don’t have to travel anywhere to ask Jesus for anything that we hope for. We need only be still in His presence and speak to Him anywhere, any time. The only requirement is that you believe and not doubt (James 1:6), it’s that simple. So next time somebody poses the question…ASK.
