Our Bodies | written by Simone Simon

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 we read these words: “You are not Your own, you are bought with a price.  So glorify God in your body.”

We belong to God first, therefore it is of the utmost importance that we glorify God by becoming and being physically fit. We should all strive to obtain wholesome health. Some of the advantages of being physically fit are that it brings your energy levels up, which means you can  achieve and gain so much more in life. Being physically fit contributes to  a longer life and also better mental function.  It gives you a strong  heart, and a good cardiovascular system that helps maintain a healthy blood pressure. It  also gives your body the incredible ability to fight off disease.

Another amazing benefit of physical fitness is that exercise boosts endorphins in your body.  “Endorphins” comes from two words: endogenous (coming from the body) and morphine (the opiate pain reliever). A specific event such as engaging in exercise, facing a stressful situation, or experiencing something physically painful can trigger a rush of endorphins. So someone who injures themself when out running, for example, might experience a rush of endorphins that gives them the strength to limp or crawl to safety.

Endorphins have many positive effects. A person bitten by a dog, for example, may feel no pain at the time. That’s because endorphins have a protective effect that helps them cope with the stress of the situation.

The many other benefits of endorphins include:

  • Reduced anxiety
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Enhanced immune response
  • Reduced pain
  • Reduced depression
  • Regulation or modulation of appetite

On the other hand, low endorphin levels may lead to:

  • Increased anxiety
  • More mood swings
  • Problems with addiction
  • Problems with sleeping
  • Increased depression

Keeping fit and exercising regularly keeps your body producing endorphins that, in turn, help protect you from many challenging situations you face in everyday life.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 NKJV

God wants us to be physically fit so that we can live a life of absolute fullness in Him, and so that we can withstand the attacks of negative forces on a physical level. We must also be thankful to Him for forming us and making us so beautiful and strong.

God has formed you before the foundations of the world. He knitted you together.  Every muscle, bone, ligament was formed by God.  Your DNA consists of all of Christ.  He is in you, therefore the Word of God says that we should, “Praise Christ with our bodies”.

Romans 12:1 says that we should, “Present our bodies as a living sacrifice , holy and pleasing unto God which is our reasonable service.”

Your body was made to worship God! It was formed to give Him praise, to dance, to move, to lift up Holy hands. We need to be fit to serve our maker Jesus Christ.

Choose to become and be physically fit today. Nothing is impossible with God on your side!
